How do I know if my sprocket needs replacing?
Check the teeth profiles. If they are sharp like knife blades or have a hooked "wave" appearance, they are worn out. Also, if you can pull the chain away from the sprocket while it's wrapped, the fit is loose.
Should I replace the sprocket every time I replace the chain?
Ideally, yes. Placing a new chain on an old, worn sprocket will cause the new chain to stretch and fail prematurely, wasting your investment in the chain.
